Karen Gaudette Brewer is an award-winning food, culture and lifestyles writer based in the Pacific Northwest. Covers the waterfront

There's more to Northwest seafood than salmon, halibut, spot prawns, manila clams, Penn Cove mussels, oysters, geoduck, and...seriously, I could go on for another twelve species without covering anywhere near the ground that Karen does in this book. What I love about Seafood Lover's Pacific Northwest is how it ventures into so many corners of our region's seafood culture. It features high-end restaurants, seaside shacks, clam digging, festivals, fishmongers, and public markets. Above all, Seafood Lover's PNW is inclusive: in addition to the "catch it, steam it, and serve it," you'll read about (and want to visit) great seafood dishes at Peruvian, Chinese, French, Cajun, and (especially) Japanese restaurants.
In other words, this book is exactly what it says. Non-northwesterners, prepare to get jealous all over again. And did I mention recipes?

Tempting travel ideas and approachable recipes!

As a resident of the Pacific Northwest for more than seven years, I am embarrassed to say how little I knew about the sea creatures that live here and how to eat them. In a clear and friendly way, this book gives me a guide to the delicious seafood in my own backyard. I'd buy it just for the definitions and the recipes, but it's also a to-do list for day trips. It highlights the best places to visit for food and views. Definitely a great gift for someone who just moved to the Pacific Northwest, or like me, has been neglecting the amazing restaurants and other destinations we have around here. One warning: Don't read this when you're hungry. You will find yourself craving delicious seafood just a few pages in.

Useful & Entertaining for PNW Travel

My family and I travel a lot around the Pacific Northwest and we're going to keep this book in our car along with our hiking book because it's that useful. It has tons of great restaurant recommendations, recipes and off-the-beaten-path tips you wouldn't get on say Yelp or Foursquare. You don't have to be a foodie to find it useful, you just have to like seafood and local charm.
