The girl woke up as if someone disturbed her from sleep, and she started to cry. Janaki was gone. Leyamma's thoughts wandered on to her past. Over twenty years ago she woke up one dark night. Her mother had left her at the young age of thirty one. . . . . . . . . . The one who was always there to quench the thirst of the dying inmates at Mandiram was denied water when she begged for it at her death bed. . . . . . . . . "Physicians can help to heal body aches; food and drink can quench hunger and thirst; words of consolation can heal heart aches and friendship can heal the burden of loneliness" -P.C. George

Inspired by his own uncle's evangelistic outlook and the humanitarian outlook of his wife's family, Drs. KE and Leyamma Mathew couldn't escape accepting volunteerism as their life's philosophy. Thus it was easy for the author to reminisce and to weave the life story of PC George and Leyamma by providing most accurate information. This book will be a good guide in understanding the original concepts of volunteerism and its far reaching and broad effects. To those who consider themselves as unworthy in spite of owning immense material worth, this book will enlighten them the value of helping others that complements self worthiness. As a small Sunday School boy, I remember putting a pinch of rice in a bucket along with other students to sustain the members of this adult orphanage five decades ago. Rice was pooled from different areas irrespective of its type of genetic make up. A must read book by all diaspora youths. Thanks to KE Mathew and Leyamma Mathew for their contribution in bringing these legends to English readership! Jojy

'Orphans of Mundakapadam' is the dramatic presentation of real story of orphans of a little village Mundakapadam, Kerala, India. Also the story of trust in the Lord and dedicated service of Mr. P.C. George and his sister Sevinee Leyamma. Their lives and works became blessings to many.
This book gives an excellent opportunity to understand the lifestyle and Christian reformation and revival movements in that part of the world during early twentieth century.
