Dan Ramsey is a licensed building and home improvement contractor who has taught thousands of homeowners how to fix things through more than two dozen books and his Fix-It Club® (www.FixItClub.com). Previously, he was a successful real estate agent. In addition, Dan has owned and maintained seven homes, including his latest at the gateway to the Redwoods in northern California. He currently is president of the National Association of Home & Workshop Writers (www.nahww.org). Dan lives and works with his wife and editor of 35 years, Judy. They have three children (Heather, Byron, and Brendon), three grandchildren, three pets, and three vehicles. Life is good! Paul Kepple and Jude Buffum are better known as the Philadelphia-based studio Headcase Design. Their work has been featured in many design and illustration publications, such as American Illustration, Communication Arts, and Print. Paul worked at Running Press Book Publishers for several years before opening Headcase in 1998. Both graduated from the Tyler School of Art, where they now teach.

Great and fun (and somewhat informative) for novice homeowners

Bought this book for an engineer friend who recently moved into his first house (after many years of apartment living). The writing style makes it geek-friendly, and provides a way to ease into home maintenance - definitely not a full guide, more an intro and demystification for those who've never had to think about caring for a home before.

Not what I expected

Sadly, this book spends more time being funny than it does offering sound advice and instructions for actual home maintenance. If I had bought it for entertainment purposes, it would have been great, but I got it to help me care for my home...something it doesn't do.

Not what I was looking for in an Owner's Manual

This book really was disappointing. The graphics were nice but the info was thin... Very thin.
For instance , toward the beginning, there is a section on buying a house. In that section, there is a checklist for you to rate the different areas and systems within the house, but never was there any mention in the book about how to rate them. What is a new homeowner to look for and how to tell if something is in okay shape or excellent shape... Or maybe it's barely hanging on.
If you are expecting a true "Owner's Manual", like for a car, this isn't it.
