About the Author
Roger Meadows is the author of A CHANCE ENCOUNTER and a prior suspense novel, HANGMAN, A Deadly Game. After college and a tour as an Army aviator, he began a career in industry, completing graduate school along the way. He holds seventeen U.S. patents. He conducted business throughout the world, dealing with many cultures. He has written dozens of essays and short stories, and edited the works of other writers. He has participated in writers’ groups in Spartanburg, Greenville, and Hilton Head, South Carolina; and Knoxville, Tennessee. He and his wife, Wanda, are members of the local chapter of Sisters in Crime. Mr. Meadows enjoys reading, sailing, kayaking, travel, and wooden boat building. He and his wife live in the Upstate of South Carolina. They have three adult children and two grandchildren.

Murder Mystery or Adventure?

What would you do if you were sailing alone in the South Seas and came upon a sinking, seemingly deserted yacht? No idea? The protagonist, Gideon Grant knows exactly what to do in every emergency on land or sea, facing every challenge with such matter-of-fact logic and courage that we almost feel we could do it too.
Roger Meadows has written an exciting and well-researched novel that keeps us reading. Obviously Meadows is well-schooled in all aspects of boat building, sailing, and other nautical matters. On land also, he has meticulously researched every topic he discusses, so we are assured that he knows what he is talking about. His writing style and dialogue flow well, and we never find grammatical errors to stumble over as we do in so many modern novels.
We meet some interesting characters along the way and empathize with them as we negotiate some rather harrowing episodes together. Is this a murder mystery or adventure story? We are not quite sure until near the end, so are kept guessing.
The Epilogue is a blessing we often wish for but do not receive in novels we especially enjoy.

Life's Plan? We'll See

Roger Meadows introduces believable, consistent characters, keeping readers on board for the ride with some special tricks to maintain interest, such as the interplay between the adult and the child, who is used to but not receptive of hearing "We'll see" from adults. The adult in this case is Gideon Grant, a young computer lawyer, whose chance encounter on the open ocean involves a four-year-old, The chance meeting changes his life and teaches him lessons about life and love. This is a good, fast-paced novel of suspense.

Mystery on the High Seas!

A Chance Encounter is a suspense novel which draws on the author's extensive knowledge of sailing adding vitality and excitement to the setting and plot. There are elements of mystery and romance as well as engaging characters with whom the reader becomes well-acquainted. The reader is kept on the edge of his seat as the plot has twists and turns before all comes to a satisfactory conclusion.
