From Kirkus Reviews
Knecht’s memoir takes readers up into the rarefied atmosphere of being an international flight attendant with iconic airline Pan American, with its special culture, exotic locales, and quirkiness.
Debut memoirist Knecht is a very engaging schmoozer. After becoming a Pan Am flight attendant just out of college, she planned to work there for a couple of years, then pursue other plans; instead, she remained with Pan Am until its demise in the early 1990s. She took to world travel like a Boeing to the jet stream. Readers also learn about her upbringing and ambitions. In those days, Pan Am ran a tight ship, and esprit de corps was high. There was, of course, some tomfoolery (Knecht is a member of the Five Mile High Club). On the somber side, the hijacking in the title refers to the 1986 hijacking of Pan Am 73 on the tarmac at the Karachi airport. Knecht wasn’t on the flight, but many friends were, including an Indian flight crew whom she had trained and befriended. Knecht tells the story well, capturing the anxiety and horror. After Pan Am, and on a very loose arrangement with its successor, Delta, she became a private flight attendant, serving on private or corporate jets, where she met many celebrities about whom she is now happy to dish. Speaking of dishes, her book also includes recipes for many items from the famous Pan Am menu. Always hovering behind the narrative like a ghost is the downfall of Pan Am—a bittersweet backdrop for such an alluring profession.
An authentic voice helps this tale take off.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Life, Love, and a Hijacking: My Pan Am Memoir Knecht's delightful memoir introduces readers to the exciting world of air travel. She spent decades as a flight attendant for Pan Am Airlines, getting to experience the glamour of world travel and an older, more luxurious way of getting places (before budget airlines ascended and Pan Am went bankrupt). Her years of travel took her all over the world, led her to meet many amazing people, and helped her maintain close ties with family, friends, and lovers, especially with her family's liberal use of her travel benefits. She exposes this world to readers in delightful anecdotes—some funny, some heartbreaking—and on every page displays an infectious lust for travel and adventure. Lively look at the life of a Pan Am stewardess
By A customer
Back when travel meant you dressed up, and airlines treated passengers like guests, traveling was the epitome of style and fun. Author Wendy Sue Knecht has written her memoir detailing her experiences as a Pan Am flight attendant during the late 70s and onward. She tells about her worldwide adventures including her trip to Africa where a group of passengers helped keep her out of trouble. She writes of one famous celebrity who gave a small amount of beer to help quiet one of her children.
I enjoyed reading the Non-Revenue Passenger Guide which gave guidance for passenger attire. Depending on whether you were flying in First Class or Economy passengers were told they MUST wear suits or dresses. Males in First Class had to wear a tie while Economy passengers could have an open shirt.
I also enjoyed reading some of the Pan Am recipes included in her book. You will find the following recipes in her book:
Pavlova
Rise e Bisi
Lobster Thermador
Pan Am Cherries Jubilee
Knecht's book is a great read and I highly recommend her book.

Timeless, rare account of the life in the air. Publishers take note. This is what readers want in a memoir.
By Michael Angliss
It is obvious why everyone keeps on giving this book five stars out of five. Great, detailed first-hand account of what goes on with passengers and crew alike in a commercial airliner of an iconic airline. Both a front- and behind-the-scenes look at the lifestyle of the flight attendant; the adventures, the dramas, the technicalities, the myriad diversities of the world in the air, the comedy, the fun, and the fears--and, too, the sacrifices, such as missing family events on the ground at home, and when the author realises she might have died in the hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73, which stands as one of the most brutal hijackings in the history of aviation. Wendy Sue Knecht has a gift for storytelling in a clear and mainstream way. An outstanding memoir which makes excellent research material for anyone who is interested in the air industry, as well as a highly entertaining story. As with all memoirs of this calibre, it is the only one there is of its exact record of certain crucial events in the world--you would be well served to read it to absorb that rareness. Publishers should also pick it up soon, as it's a hit. Books such as this don't happen along very often, a fact ensuring it will be a cherished, timeless piece for many people for many years to come.

Enjoy the journey!

I started reading this book aloud to my 16 year old daughter while she was recovering from surgery. It was the perfect medicine for both of us - engrossing, funny, at times inspirational, and filled with good cheer. Wendy Knecht takes us back to a time before traveling in sweat pants was de rigueur. We loved all her insider info into the airline industry, the pilots who fly us and the flight attendants who serve us. You don’t have to be a world class traveler to love this book - just someone with a touch of nostalgia, a good sense of humor and an appreciation for great stories!
