About the Author
Stephen Johnson is a former lawyer and businessman. He was born in Portland, Maine, grew up in Gorham, graduated from Washington and Lee University and participated in the Stonecoast Writers Conference at the University of Southern Maine. He is listed in the 2007 and 2008 editions of Best Lawyers in America and once started and managed a competitive energy company that supplied electricity to more than 500,000 customers. He has two daughters and three stepdaughters, each of them lovely and accomplished. He writes fiction as a hobby and lives in South Portland, Maine with his wife, Margaret, who is also a lawyer.

this is a good place to start

If you're interested in discovering a significant new author, this is a good place to start. Stephen Johnson's new novel has life in it - not invented for literary purposes, but based on how people really live. It starts with a mystery, catches fire with an incendiary incident in the fourth chapter, and is impossible to put down. I'm amazed at how deep Johnson's insights into character go - how it is possible for an author to enter so thoroughly into the lives of a book's characters. It amounts to wisdom, not preached, but embodied. An author, and a book, not to be missed.

Great Read, Great Author

The plot is pulling, full of candid moments among characters struggling with secrets and relevant concerns that will resonate with every reader. I can’t wait for the next book!
