For over a decade, Kimberly Davis has inspired and guided women to discover their creative hearts through Stitch Your Art Out, the quilting and knitting shop that she co-owns just outside State College, Pennsylvania. She’s passionate about sharing her deep love for the creative process with other women. She teaches class, leads workshops, and hosts retreats all with the intention to help women discover or deepen their journey on the creative path. She lives outside State College, Pennsylvania with her husband and three cats, where she loves creating, painting, and spending time in nature. An easy-to-follow handbook

This book clearly describes how to set up your sewing machine and begin free-motion stitching, but more than that, it's a guide to enjoying the process. Kimberly Davis begins at the beginning, no previous experience required. She encourages her reader to ignore their "inner critic" and to practice the stitching exercises "with abandon and give yourself the freedom to make an unsightly mess" until you become comfortable with the techniques and with your own style. It was very liberating to realize I indeed have a 'style!' The book is printed in black and white, which is fine for the lessons, but I would have loved to see a few color photos of her finished quilts.

Who would have thought one would need a guide to free-motion quilting. I figured I would just move the cloth in whatever direction I was inspired and it would look great and creative. Wrong! This book is informative, fun to read, and helped me hone the necessary techniques I needed to be successful and produce something worth looking at.

I have read other books on free-motion quilting, and watched a bunch of videos from a bunch of people. I have learned something every time.
But this book shines above them all. The author looks at quilting not just as using the machine, but as using the machine as an extension of being a normal human. She takes into account the way people learn, and the steps you need to start from the beginning and get better. She helps you overcome fears--really. She has many, many tips for making your quilting look better.
I actually did the exercises in the book because they were interesting and fun to do. And they actually helped make my free-motion quilting better! Thank you, Kimberly Davis.
