Purchased for my 3.5 year old. Wish the illustrations were larger and took up more of the page. I didn't realize that each image was duplicated and the duplicate would be colored in. I really just wanted a simple cooling book of trucks.

I really like this coloring book. Nicely done - more like a book with heavy duty paper and a really nice thick cover. Not something that can be torn to pieces when coloring like so many of the cheaps ones do. I will by again as a gift I am sure.

This is the best necktie quilt book I have seen. I knew I had to have this book when I realized I really like most of the quilts in it and I have a huge stash of ties. If you have a stash of ties you want to make into a special quilt you will want to get your hands on this book. Warning: if you don't have a stash of ties you're going to want some if you happen to come across this book on the shelf. (Canadian Quilter Magazine)

Quilt artist Copenhaver has come up with new ideas for quilting with ties, but she retains one of the good old reasons for doing so; there are plenty of ties lying around. Before she details her projects, she spends a good while teaching the basics of working with ties. She starts with washing (or not) and moves to deconstructing (picking and pulling threads) and pressing. She covers arranging (all those reds!) and managing a tie stash. Copenhaver does not so much adapt ties to quilts as quilt ties in a new way. Her addition to the methodology is exploiting fusible interfacing "to stabilize the necktie material and to facilitate rotary cutting." Her 16 projects encourage quilters at various skill levels, but even the ones for beginners require a sure hand for dealing with the quirks of a tie cut on the bias, though that's handy for binding. The projects include covers, wall-hangings, runners, and pillows. (Publishers Weekly, 10/6/14)

Christine Copenhaver has been sewing creatively since the seventh grade. Her quilts have been shown at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky; American Quilter's Society shows; art galleries; and quilt guild shows. Christine lives in Franklin, Tennessee.

Great reference book for using ties in quilt projects

I really like Necktie Quilts Reinvented because this book is about ties and you know I love
to go to the thrift shop and pick up wool sweaters, wool jackets, wool pants for fabric.
I also pick up silk ties, so when I saw this book I thought this book is going to be great
because now I can use some of those ties to make projects.Then I realized that I'm going
to have to buy a lot more ties to make some of the projects I want to in this book!
In the book Christine gives you lots of information about ties: how to deconstruct them, how to
get them ready for using in quilts. She also uses fusible interfacing on them and explains
in great detail how to apply that to the ties so you don't ruin them. She also has a method
for marking the fusible interfacing before it goes on the ties to help you cutting squares
and diamonds from them, so I thought that was very clever.
I like the fact that she marks the projects by skill level, so beginner, advanced beginner,
intermediate - that type of thing and she also has down the side on them what kind of
shape she is using in them. For this one here, which is Swinging on a Star in Blue, is starting
with squares. You know you're going to be using squares in that project. Again, that
kinds of helps you to know how that construction is going to go. If you are someone who doesn't
like to do triangles, then you can avoid the triangle projects.
Looking through the book, there are lots of different fun projects, mostly kind of traditional
looking blocks. Something that caught my eye was this Wild and Crazy Guys Ties, which reminded
me of the Saturday Night Live skit with Dan Ackroyd and Steve Martin, if you're old enough
to remember those. So that was kind of fun. Also, you've got a Classic Log Cabin that
is nice. By looking at these, you wouldn't really realize
that they are made with ties. They really don't give that look of - well, that's another
quilt made with ties, right? Here's a smaller project, a pillow, called
Tabasco Ties. So if you were starting to use ties in your quilt projects and you haven't
done that before, it's nice to have a small project to start with just to get some confidence.
Another one I really liked was the Black-Eyed Dresden Sue. Again your dresden plate look,
but I really liked it in the ties. It gives it lots of energy.
So, if you are someone who likes to construct quilts with ties and you're looking for a
really great reference book, and a lot of good projects in it, you will enjoy Necktie
Quilts Reinvented.

What a great book on making a quilt from Ties!

Am so excited to have found this book (my sister-in-law has it too!) There are some lovely patterns I think the Trellis will work perfectly for me to make 3 wall hangings, out of my dad's ties, for myself and my brothers!

There is very thorough preparation information that I found very helpful.

about the scanned-OCR-edition

I would like to write about the text of the paperback, not on the content: this is an edition of GeneralBooks who scanned the original book (that is available in pdf for the buyers - fortunately), passed it through OCR, and printed what came out. NO checking and NO formatting was done on the text. Even the exising formatting is often missing (footnotes follow mostly continously in the same row (!) the text of one-one page), titles may miss on the beginning of chapters, one part of the content disappeared (I am not even aware of OCR to do that!). Without the original scanned book, it is impossible to read. I wonder how much it would have added to the present price to just check for formatting and separating text from footnotes, nothing more. As it is now, I would not recommend it at all, but only to buy the pdf, and print it out at home. The present state of the book is simply inacceptable.

I found it a great deal less even handed than I would have expected

I found this book when as I was been exploring the filioque clause and things related to it. In short it was not what I was expecting. Probably the first half of the book, as he speaks about the undivided Church was helpful and covered lots of ground. For me the book fell apart somewhere between 1014 and 1054. I found it a great deal less even handed than I would have expected. I probably hadn't looked at the date of authorship till that point, and perhaps that accounts for some of it. What does become clear to a 21st century western mind is that the questions of primacy and power, hierarchy and council have been some of the worst features of Church life.

Not for the uninitiated

Pelikan is a challenge to read, because he allows the arguments of history to remain as complex as they were when they were raging.

But he does give a good feel for the spirit that formed the Orthodox Church as it exists today. It is treated objectively, and I suppose sympathetically. (I'm told he converted to Orthodoxy before he died).

Less complex discussions of Orthodoxy exist, especially Timothy Ware's books. There is also a very nice issue of Christian History magazine that gives a good overview.

This is the most serious discussion of Orthodox doctrine that I have seen.

Great read, whether you're traveling or living vicariously

While she makes it clear her book is not a “how-to-travel-on-trains” guide, there’s definitely something to be said about setting the expectations of what taking the train is like. Talking about the realities of walking on a train that sways from side to side, the concept of “train time” and so on helps the newbie train traveler to get at least some familiarity with what’s coming up. Call it the story of two epically long train journeys – her first involving a round-trip from one side of Australia to the other, and the second from Portugal to Vietnam.

There are ample pictures, a few links to specific videos or posts on her website, and a resources section in the back for the rest of the links. I do wish the pictures had been larger and took advantage of the space, but you can always zoom in to get a closer look.

If you’re a fan of epic trips, be they by road, train, boat, or plane, you’ll love this book. Personally, I’m not sure I’d have the patience for such a long journey. Having so little time to interact with the places would be a huge issue for me. While Nora also mentions her wish for more time, she also recognizes how much traveling and adventure she fit into a single month – more than most do in a year.

This book is an awesome read and gives a unique view into train travel. Whether you are an active traveler yourself or an arm chair adventurer, the descriptive narrative offers anyone a chance to feel like they were walking in Nora's view. An entertaining read and a great book to get for your next travel book.

In Dutch we have this expression: "a book that reads like a train". It's a book that you finish in no-time. That you don't put aside, that makes time fly by without you knowing it.
That's what this book does, it takes you along for a train ride and before you know it you've reached the terminus.

A waste of time and money

As an atheist I am fully aboard the intent of this book. As an intelligent reader, I am offended by the careless, sloppy nature of this book. At first I thought the book might be best understood as a first draft, but the further I got into it the more I saw this as a pre-first draft—something written perhaps on the back of a napkin. There is a good and useful book here it the author were willing to do the work, which obviously he is not.

This was a great review of logical fallacies that are often used by fundamentalist Christians, but they are also common fallacies used by others. I got this book as a review of formal logic. It was great for that, for the common fallacies used. It covered them very well. I wish they'd covered more less-common fallacies.

Aquapics bacteria

It answer a lot question since I am new in aquaponic. I would like to see functioning designs with the bio filter included. Other wise a very good source of information.

It only 1/8 inch thick or so not much knowlege. Not worth ten bucks.

These are the smallest book with little info that is already on youtube. Quite dissapointed.
