At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. A great review into the possible genetic predispositions of the Australian Cattle Dog.

This is a great review into the possible genetic predispositions of the Australian Cattle Dog. I would recommend this to any High School level student doing an informative speech on the breed, any High School student doing a paper on Australian Cattle Dogs. This is written very well by Dr.Clark in a way that is educational because it is understandable. I would even recommend it as beginning research for a college level paper on the breed, and there common genetic conditions. All breeds have there own health risks due to genetics, this short publication is very detailed in explaining the risks in the Australian Cattle Dog.

This book contains very brief, sometimes only a sentence long, descriptions of issues associated with this breed. Occasionally the author will list OFA rankings. OFA rankings are free on their website. The book also lists genetic tests for the breed and CHIC requirements. Again, this information is available free online. One thing that really bothered me is that the author incorrectly links the deafness in ACDs to the merle gene. ACDs do not have the merle gene. I would expect better from an “expert.” This resource is a waste of money.
