A DEEPLY MOVING STORY

Sally Deane Norton poured her heart out when she wrote this book, leaving the reader with a deeply moving story that demonstrates the depths to which human love can go, and how that love acts as a foundation for enormous courage, inner strength and fortitude when faced with losing someone you cherish as much as life itself. As I read her book, I felt Sally's struggle when she decided to free herself from a very difficult marriage. I rejoiced with her when she found the love of her life, and I wept with her as she moved through her beloved husband's unexpected battle with cancer.
While we may know people who have fought or are fighting a battle against cancer, rarely do we have the opportunity to “witness” the raw emotions that become their constant companion as they move through all that cancer entails. The resilience both Sally and her husband, Paul, displayed testifies to the strength of their love and their faith.
Sally’s nursing skills, plus her hospice experience, was a blessing for both of them. She knew what to do and when to do it, but that knowledge did not relieve either of them from the necessity of finding a way to accept the fact that Paul was slowly and surely dying. How they met that challenge most certainly will be an inspiration for the readers of this book, just as it was for me.
I’ve believed for a long time that all things – regardless of what they are - come bearing a gift. Sally’s story bears testimony to this truism. Not only did Sally bear her loss with great courage, she wrote this book so others can know that death and grief are not the end of the story. The love is still there, and that love never ends.

Was this a term paper? Very amateurishly written. Too many punctuation and grammatical mistakes. Found that to be very distracting and couldn't wait to finish it. Feel ripped off.

This "book" is truly awful. It is written at ...

This "book" is truly awful. It is written at a fifth-grade level and is full of inaccuracies. It is not worth a minute of your time and will be erased from my Kindle. For example, while Bill Clinton was impeached by the House, he was not removed from office. Hilary Clinton testified before Congress on Benghazi but there was never a trial on the topic...and the false statements continue throughout the text.

Great book about a Woman who is changing politics!

What a great book behind the life of Hillary Clinton. I bought the book because I was intrigued as she will more than likely be running for president in the next election. Michael Reed uses several different stories such as the Monica Lewinsky scandal with husband Bill Clinton and the Benghazi attack, which are really high profile news that most people know about. The author took the time to tell you about how Hillary went from being the First Lady to getting into politics on her own.

I really enjoyed the chapter about Hillary Clinton now and in the future...as she could possibly become the first woman President of the United States. Would recommend this book to anyone that wants to know anything about US politics...or wants to know about the United States in general!

I think this commentary was written in 1754 so some ...

I think this commentary was written in 1754 so some of the language is old English but understandable. The commentary of the first chapter of Romans left me a little puzzled as to the true meaning of the chapter; but after that it was clear what was being taught in the rest of the book of Romans. I also use a modern commentary on Romans but find this one more meaningful.

sooooooooooooo good to read

I received book one via "Book Bub" "Reckless" it was such a great book so full of twist and turns a dash of romance and full of great reading. I wen to Amazon -- Kindle and bought the entire series I will say this it is hard to not jump into the next book until all four are read. These are well written just keep you reading to the wee hours. I highly recommend this series

these are all GOOD cops. Mia

The plot of this book revolves around the murder of Dave Kazimoroff, homicide detective, loving brother of the h, Mia. The H, Jack Burton, is Dave's soon to be ex-partner, whom he hates- for no known reason he can understand. It begins with the h, Mia, sustaining broken ribs and ankle in a riding mishap but within only days, she's hot on the trail of her brother's murderer. Inasmuch as he died from an overdose of Ecstasy, it's an unsual crime. Now, the crazy begins. All the main characters are either fellow officers, their wives or their girlfriends, who- as it turns out have all been sleeping with the victim. Carol, the wife of the police Chief was having a 3-way with the victim and another married officer, who happens to be a sadist lunatic. His wife Trish, a battered mousy type keeps quiet about her abuse which enables the 'good cop' to continue his kidnapping, raping, brutalizing episodes. Karen, the coroner, had a one night flling with the H and wants more but he's not interested and still having issues with his ex-wife, Dianne, who has also slept with the victim AND the teenage yard boy, which caused the divorce between her and the H, Jack Burton. I was dizzy with confusion with so many women jumping in and out of bed with whomever, taking videos of their sex play and the blatant drug use. Remember, these are all GOOD cops. Mia, the h was a bit easier to remember only because her name was unique above the others. Her paranormal abilities were confusing, as they didn't contribute anything helpful and were therefore inept to the solving of anything. Somehow, the H's character was softened with the confusing resuce of an abused dog, Daisy- not exactly sure how that happened as the scene was so vague.
Now, comes Heather, the fiancee of the victim, who is bored since her true love is now gone (two weeks) and seeks out Keith, his best friend and becomes his newest victim- kidnapped, beaten, and raped, she disappears from the story while Keith continues to lust after his best friends's sister, Mia, whom he finally manages to kidnap, drug, beat, and use rather sensational tools to torture her for three hours before carrying out his plan to rape her. Aha! The H tracks Mia down, finds her in a storage unit, hanging from the cieiling by her bound hands, She's been beaten, burned, cut, whipped, shocked with a cattle prod,.. but not raped, YET. Due to the drugs, she has no memory of the attacker, or the evil doer. In three days, she bounces right back into the investigation of her slain brother, who by this time, I'm elated that he's been taken out of commission. At this point, she should've been on life support with the extent of injuries..not so. Unwillingly, since Jack has fallen in love with Mia, he refuses to have sex with her and stops just short of completing the act. Now then, the h, Mia, in her frustration describes the interlude to the readers. Unbelievable!...Mia, a twenty-eight year old virgin with a Master's Degree uses such crude descriptive wording that the potential love scene is disgusting. Matter of fact, with the rampant sexual immorality throughout...the entire plot comes off- dirty, indecent, and shocking. But- the worst part is when Mia experiments with the date rape drug just to understand the effects, it's almost a commercial ad encouraging it's use. She allows the reader to experience her happy, happy sensation of peace and exilaration, excessive energy rush and sense of undeniable pleasure. The formatting was sloppy but only because the writer used justified alignment with hypens which often spreads two or three words across one entire line. The fact that she didn't correct it and republish leads me to believe 'her' action (and at this point I'm suspecting the author is a male ghost writer) was not in polishing a finished product, but in producing more of the same ASAP. If I must give it a star rating, I'll give it ONE star as the title, 'Reckless'; was, indeed just that, add dangerous, since many readers were given a thoughtful sample of Ecstasy. I would never encourage anyone to read tthis book, nor will I attempt to plow through anything else thrown together by this writer. As an avid reader, I've critiqued many books and as a writer, I know the extreme pressure of creating, editing, re-writing, formatting, re-formatting and publishing. Without re-writing or polishing out the rough edges, this book is, in my opinion, is literary garbage. FYI. I have a tendacity to be lenient with my critiques. This is only book I've ever rated so low. I've been honest and actually searched for something....anything- good by which I could rate it higher, but it just isn't there.

Captivating. Exciting to Read.

"Dead Men Running," by Joel Lee, is the most exciting, gripping, and captivating book I have read in years. It is very, very well written. I usually read a book over several weeks. This one I read in three days because it was so exciting. I highly recommend it. Well done, Joel Lee. Well done!!!

Running on Empty

DEAD MEN RUNNING, by Joel Lee, is quite an achievement. It is exceedingly difficult to draw a character as complex as Ray Parker, one of the Cedar Mountain Six, death row prisoners making a break from the big house. The challenge of making the reader want to see Ray escape, despite his date with the electric chair, despite his, at best, ancillary involvement in at least four murders, and countless thefts and robberies. Yet Ray is a sympathetic character. Even more remarkably, Lee avoids the Manichean Trap which mostly writers would walk into blindly. How do you make your bad guy into a hero? Make the good guy, in this case, Jack Spencer, the Tennessee State cop who has gone awol to follow his prey almost to the end of the novel, into a bad guy. Yet Lee manages to avoid this trap. Spencer is an ordinary man, driven, as so many of us are, by his own set of demons. Yet he isn't a bad man man. He isn't evil, and his primary motivation is justice.

The book grabbed me from the very beginning, and wouldn't let me go until the end. Yes, I actually cared about these men, and the race, the competition into which they were joined, from the beginning until the end. An excellent debut for Mr. lee.

So, why did I only give it 3 stars? Because I rarely give five stars. DEAD MEN RUNNING, while entertaining, does not approach the level of great literature. This, I'm sure is fine with Mr. Lee, who expresses a fealty to the storyteller's tradition. In this he has done quite well. Some may argue that all great literature is in fact nothing but good story telling. They would be right, but still.

The reason I gave it three rather than four stars has to do with some sloppy editing. A few typos, relatively few in fact, for a small press requiring substantial writer involvement in the process, but there was the matter of the incredible shape-and-color-shifting automobiles that marred the novel. Was it a GrandAm or an Escape which hit the deer? Was the GrandAm back at the cabin, or was it at the body shop? If Ray stole a dark green Pontiac Bonneville, why did Jack know he was onto his prey when he saw the maroon Bonneville? Why did the maroon Bonneville leave a streak of green on the rusted Cadillac? Typos are one thing, but groaners like this are too big to ignore. It needs to be fixed.

Still, when all is said and done, the flaws of the book, like those of the main characters, are all too human. If you know they are there, it shouldn't affect your appreciation of the book, and again, the book is well worth buying and reading.

Compelling, fast paced, and clear identification with the main character are the hallmark of this riveting story. From the first page to the last, I couldn't stop. There was no putting it down to come back later- that simply wasn't possible. In prose that is tightly constructed and
forceful, Joel takes us on a journey that you will not soon forget.
