Woah! This is the most important of the books because now you get into Boone's backstory which directly leads into the Director's Cut of Nightbreed. Here is when the story kicks into overdrive. You know where Boone comes from, what he has had to deal with, how he hooked up with Lori, very dramatic storytelling and by far the best issue yet. After reading this issue you can't look at the movie the same way, takes on a totally different dimension.

Former New York Times reporter Jack McMorrow, now the editor of a weekly small-town Maine newspaper, is on the scene when the newspaper's photographer is pulled from a canal. Although the authorities rule suicide, McMorrow believes that Arthur Bertin was murdered. Because McMorrow cannot stifle his investigative instincts, he sets off a chain of events that place him and his girlfriend in grave danger. What lies behind Arthur's death is not evident until the last pages of the book. However, Boyle does not create a truly plausible bridge between the perpetrator and the viciousness of the plan to warn McMorrow to stop. First-time novelist Boyle lets his suspense build to an excruciating point while forgetting about character development. Not an essential purchase.

Boyle's characters are all engaging; his high-speed plot never bogs down; and his dry wit provides some welcome relief from the hard-hitting action. Fans of Robert B. Parker's Spenser will love McMorrow, a quintessential male who's tough, funny, macho, and intelligent, who thrives on danger, and who has a girlfriend who's almost as cool as Susan Silverman. Boyle's career as a journalist is evident in his novels. The Jack McMorrow tales are as gripping as any crime thrillers and Boyle's work on the streets ensures that his books are authentic and gritty. Read one, you'll want to read them all.

Well-written, interesting mystery

I was uncertain if I would like a novel with a journalist as the main character, but Jack McMorrow is not a typical journalist, which is one reason he left the New York Times and moved to rural Maine. It is more like following an amateur detective who happens to be a journalist.

Not only was the story interesting, but the descriptions were good reading as well, whether describing people or scenery. In some books you want to skip over the descriptions, but not in these...

I liked this one well enough to start reading the second book in the series, which I will finish today.

Gerry Boyle hits home!

I was initially attracted to this book because the setting is my own
home town of Rumford (known as Androscoggin in the book). What a surprise!
As a mystery, it kept me baffled until its demise (which, by the way, was almost Mr. McMorrow's!).
Mr. Boyle does such an excellent job of developing his main character, I almost know where he lives;
somewhere on Falmouth or Cumberland Street would be my guess. Although there
is a special, chill-up-your-spine feeling when murder takes place in your own
home town, fiction or non, I would have enjoyed this book if it had been set in OshKosh, Wisconsin.
I'm holding my breath until the next Jack Mcmorrow mystery based in Maine is released (of course, an
added advantage is that I don't have to breathe the odiferous emulations created by our resident mill mentioned in
this book!)

I knew that I would love it unequivocally because he is funny

When my father-in-law, Michael McInerney, decided that he was going to write a book, I knew that I would love it unequivocally because he is funny, smart, and the man with whom I must spend most Sunday afternoons.

In his fictional account about the post prison experiences of an ex-felon and the oddball characters he meets along the way, Michael McInerney makes me laugh, cry, and pray that he will never ask me about what happens on page 67 for I haven't read that far yet. However, I know the amusing tale will continue to make me chuckle as I lay happily in my marital bed next to my beautiful wife who I love with all my heart and thank every day that my father-in-law brought into my life.

All in all, I strongly recommend that you buy this book. It is an engaging story that will make both you and I smile: you because you'll read a hilarious narrative of sport and redemption; me because every cent that Michael McInerney earns potentially helps pay for my kids' college tuition.

About the Author
Horace A. Ford (1822–1880) is known as one of the greatest target archers of all time. He first picked up the bow in 1845, and a mere four years later won the Grand National Archery Meeting held in the United Kingdom. He proceeded to win an unmatched, eleven consecutive championships, and a twelfth "comeback" win. His high score - that of 1271 in the Double York Round in 1857 - remained archery's high mark for over 70 years. He is the author of Archery: Its Theory and Practice, one of the all-time classics of archery.

A treasure of history and technique

Horace Ford was one of the great archers of all time, and this volume is one of the real classics in the modern history of archery. The British have a tremendous legacy of archery; it was Henry V's English and Welsh longbowmen who turned the tide at Agincourt, one of the great turning points in British history, and the pivotal battle of the Hundred Year's War. Because of that history, Archery has been continuously popular in the UK for centuries, while here in the US it was a lost art until its resurgence the 1930s.

The archery of Ford's day was very different from the high-tech archery of most modern archers, but those who use longbows and cedar shafts and shoot bare bow- a group I belong to- will find Ford's description of gear and technique familiar to them. Yew longbows, footed arrows, self nocks- all familiar to today's primitive and traditional archers.

Calling this outdated (as some do) misses the point- it's sort of like calling DaVInci's notebooks outdated. This book is not only a fantastic glimpse into the history of our sport, it's a treasure trove of useful information for those who enjoy traditional archery.

This book was written in 15850, and revised in 1887. It is encyclopedic - good for Renaissance Fair enthusiasts, authors wanting historical accuracy in their historical or fantasy works. Might be helpful for survivalists.

It is written at about the 6th grade level, and would be a good choice for an English class or homeschool education.

I saw this on amazon and was anxious to give it a read as there are not a lot of resources out there for welsh springers or owning one, well....this is not it.
when reading through this book as a dog owner it is very apparent that this book is just the most basic of basic dog training commands, nothing in this book is specific to welshies. It actually seems like this whole book is the result of a copy and paste from a dog training wikipedia page or other book where the words "dog" have just been replaced with "welsh springer spaniel" in every sentence, paragraph and chapter. It was clearly never proof read before publishing to kindle as it is almost unreadable at some parts.
I really don't like to give out bad reviews like this but its my honest truth in hopes that nobody else loses the money I did buying this ebook.

An extraordinary story of survival by an extraordinay woman

I could not put this book down. It was well written and engaging. Its an important account of the surprizingly common and barbaric use of electroshock. Yes, they still do that. Even though the author's experience happened in the "darker years" of psychiatry, shock is still destroying minds and lives today. So few first hand accounts are in print right now-- wich is why I was so exited to see another survivor story published. If your a survior, you should read this. Shock survivors are regularly dismissed and silenced so so many of these stories don't get heard, and because of this + the sea of media misinformation people continue to unwittingly have their lives wrecked by shock-happy psychiatrists. If your a curious lay person, you should read this.
