I have loved Leo Bruce's mysteries about Carolus Deene. This is one of the latest in the series, and it suffers by comparison with the earlier ones. I found the plotting a disappointment.

About the Author
Grizzard spent his early career as a newspaper sportswriter and editor, becoming the sports editor of the Atlanta Journal at age 23, but he was much better known for his humorous columns about the American South featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was also a popular stand-up comedian and lecturer. Grizzard published 25 books before he died in 1994.

A kinder, gentler Lewis Grizzard

The first several collections of Lewis Grizzard were culled from articles unapologetically written with a distinct Southern Flavor, which perhaps limited his audience. This collection, just as insightful as those previous, comes at a time when Lewis seems more at ease with his place and age and has little to offend anyone while offering his usual portion of fun.
Lewis Grizzard was, like his friend Weyman C. Wannamaker, a Great American. His writing celebrated his Southern Heritage and is full of stories about faithful dogs, good country music and women who looked so good they'd make a preacher break out in a sweat. Lewis loved his momma, his country and his culture, and he wrote about the things he loved in a way that if you didn't love them too, at least you could understand why he did. He is missed.

Ahh...who couldn't like Grizzard? Except if you're a Yankee ;P Wish he was still around to write more. It's the only book of his I read (and won't be the last, I assure you) and I already miss him.

I really like Sean Chercover -- this short story is very good It is one of 8 that the author has in his short story collection,

Tom Bailey is a former covert operative for Uncle Sam. He has a fishing charter in the Bahamas as a cover for his more lucrative people-smuggling service.

He takes a man out and then the action begins. I do not want to say much more because it will spoil the story-- buy it - or better yet get the whole collection

"Path of the Assassin" ("Hanzo no Mon") was originally published in 1972, but it took over three decades for it to become available to an English speaking (and reading) audience. Dark Horse first introduced the manga duo of writer Kazuo Koike and artist Goseki Kojima through their epic saga of "Lone Wolf and Cub" ("Kozure Okami," 1970-76) followed by the publication of "Samurai Executioner" ("Kubikiri Asa," 1972-76). The 15-volume "Path of the Assassin" series is different in that the main protagonists are a pair of famous historical figures from 16th-century Japan, the fabled ninja Hattori Hanzo (yes, the same name that pops up in the "Kill Bill" movies to describe the samurai swords everybody is carting around), and his master, Matsduaira Jiro Saburo Monotnobu, who in the fullness of time would become the great shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu who would unite Japan into a modern nation. Previously Hanzo's method for reducing rice kernels to the size of sesame seeds has allowed Monotnobu, who is now calling himself Motoyasu, to deliver much needed provisions to Odaka Castle, the most forward point of Imagawa Yoshimoto's army. Then Motoyasu succeeds in defeating Sakuma Morishiege, but each success puts the young lord and his future in even more jeopardy.

The first two stories in Volume 4, "The Man Who Altered the River's Flow," complete the "Chapter on Relinquishing Death." In No. 2: "Hard Crossing on the Plain, Part 2," draws a final fateful distinction between Motoyasu and Imagawa. Both are seen eating and complaining that baked rice balls are hard and make their jaws tired. But whereas Imagawa is content to continue eating, Motoyasu continues to play out the possibilities of the war in his mind and anticipates the next move of the enemy. No. 3: "The Festivity Is in the Waiting" begins with Motoyasu listening to his vassals debate what they should do next now that the time for them to fawn, grovel, crawl, and cower beneath Imagawa is over. Again, the future shogun shows himself to be more farsighted than the rest and now that he has a home he takes a new name: Ieyasu. Meanwhile, Tsukumo's father Masanari shows up and wants to discuss with Hanzo and his father the future of their children.

The other five stories make up the "Chapter on Relinquishing Paths," which may or may not be the entire chapter. No. 1: "The Path Taken Upon Surrendering to Fate" has Ieyasu concerned that his wife and infant son being held hostage constrains his future actions. He sees before him a path of resignation and cannot help but feel that his whole life has been built upon letting things go, and makes his choice as to which side to take in the war. No 2: "The Man Who Altered the Flow of the River," is a brief but pointed conversation between Takedga Shigen and Masanari. No 3: "Last Gasp Scheme" begins with Ieyasu having nightmares about his wife and son being slaughtered and he decides to do anything to save their lives. So it is that he sends Hanzo with an urgent message for Udono Nagateru to set up another masterstroke. Meanwhile, Ieysau's wife Tsukiyama does what she must to survive, and a fateful misunderstand makes her desire Hanzo's death. No. 4: "The Vilamba's Man" tells of Tsukiyama's attempt to have Hanzo killed. No. 5: "Enduring in Ninja's Castle" finds Hanzo caught between his master and his master's wife, and taking extreme steps to make sure that he can continue to serve Ieysau.

Even as Koike and Kojima follow the path of history their emphasis is on the characters in the tale. At the start of the epic there was more of an emphasis on Hanzo, who clearly knew more about the ways of the world than his young master. But now Ieysau has clearly become the dominant figure in these books and I find myself enjoying the scenes in which the future shogun thinks things through in his head to those in which Hanzo runs around and does his ninja magic. At this point Masanari appears to have replaced the character of the Baldy Rat in being the primary foil, which continues the whole idea that no one is Ieysau's equal and whatever shortcomings he might have are more than covered by the loyal Hanzo. I really do think that despite the popularity of "Lone Wolf and Cub," it is this magna that really represents Koike and Kojima at their best. As always, the Parental Advisory label warning of Explicit Content on the cover of this manga should be taken seriously.

This is an excellent resource for a huge number of plants grown as bonsai. Valuable as a reference book, but could have pictures with finer resolution. The Kindle version allows for enlarging pictures, but they are invariable too fuzzy for a full size iPad screen. I recommend this book.

This is a beautiful traditional comic. A great story of mistakes, self-discovery, about making new friends and losing old ones. A story that is emotional, honest and rings so true. An amazing comic that I can't recommend enough!

The Summer of Blake Sinclair is a heartfelt comic that really has no comparison. I've been in love with Sarah Burgess' work since Penelope's Far-Out-Mantic way back in... 2009 I think it was?
The author has a very unique way of storytelling. Her art does not follow your traditional graphic novel, but instead is very stylistic, beautiful, and fits the story in a way that any other style could not.
This story is a piece that you can tell had a lot of heart put into it. I would definitely recommend it!
If you like reading about the reality of human relationships and the human condition, and are looking for a unique experience in graphic-novel storytelling then this masterpiece is for you.

Loved it

Well this was a fairly big book and I finished it in record time, and for good reason. Nancy Cornell-Healy, first let me say bravo. This was the best yet in the series. I absolutely loved the way Alex and Cassidy's relationship has matured over these three books. They are a true couple now and this book definitely catapulted them into the realm of reality for me. There was less infatuation of the "I just met you and I fell in love with you, let's get married" variety and more on to the "we have been to hell and back now and I really love you so much I don't have to tell you every 5 minutes anymore" The characters have matured greatly, even Dylan and the writing was mature, understandable and had a great flow. The normal Alex and Cassidy twists were there but the ending had me vaulting out of bed saying whaaaattttttt!!!! I can't wait until the next book and am really looking forward to reading about the new addition as well (aww) Great job nancy, keep up the good work.

this is by far the best book in the series

I would have to agree with everyone, this is by far the best book in the series. There is no more of the tired, repetious pronouncement of "i love you forever" between Cassidy and Alex. Their love has matured and has taken a far more serious nature as they grow their family. This book also shows Alex taking a stronger role as head of her campaign against the Collaborative and the head of her household.The plot twists in this are pretty unexpected, especially the ending. I literally gasped and now am anxiously awaiting book 4.

For those not 100% satisfied with book 2...you will be greatly rewarded with book 3.

Best one yet! I fell in love with this series from the very beginning and it just keeps getting better and better. I'v read the first two books in the series twice now and enjoy them even more each time. It has also helped me to know the characters better because I feel I missed a lot the first time around.

I don't know how Nancy Healy comes up with the twists and turns in her books, but they sure do keep me spellbound. Without adding any spoilers, just let me say the ending of this blew me away. One portion of the ending I may have seen coming, the other.......whew!
