Mord McGhee has done it again!

In this stunning and positively horrific prequel to his masterpiece “Ghosts of San Fransisco,” Mord has taken the readers to where it all began.

And Jack the Ripper has never been more terrifying.

Ghosts come to life in an era of technology close enough to smell. Joseph is haunted by dreams so real, it’s almost as if he’s there. Allena is on the run for her life, caught up in something much bigger than she realizes. It’s so much bigger than any of us realize. By the time things come to a head, it’s almost too late.

The characters were excellent. Each one had their own voice, their own individuality. Never once did I feel as though they were cardboard cutouts simply going through the motions of their narrative. A heavy change in tone takes place when the settings switch and it will send shivers down your spine. The reactions his word choice evokes is so strong you begin to wonder if you yourself aren’t there, watching, almost…participating.

There were a few errors throughout the book, but not enough to detract from the overall experience. The ending was a fast-paced thriller that sets things up perfectly for the follow-up.

A stunning penchant for murder, lust, and the most brilliant conspiracy theories, Murder Red Ink is like the grisly crime scene you can’t stop staring at.

I'm a sucker for buying books from their authors at conventions. I'm usually disappointed in the product, but I like to support their efforts. When I bought "Murder Red Ink" at Horror Realm in Green Tree, PA a few weeks ago, I wasn't expecting a story of this caliber!
Imagine a future where your cellphone is imbedded in your body at birth, your "Social Link" is a mandatory accessory, and the technology to become a ghost exists. If you could turn yourself into a poltergeist, an invisible ghost that has the ability to interact with the world, what would you do? Spy on a girl in the bath? Acquire confidential trading secrets? Kill?

The story of a techno-monster, flitting through time to influence the past and the future, is an interesting and unique one. We are transported back and forth between the years 1888 and 2111, following Jack the Ripper in London and ...something... in the future!

Thank you, Mr. McGhee! I'm glad you persuaded me to purchase your books. I will have to read "Ghosts of San Fransisco" now, because I should have read it first. Keep up the great work!

If this is your genre, this is your author.

This isn't your run of the mill novel nor will it appeal to all readers. Murder Red Ink, is fast moving and the reader needs to think on their feet. Don't try and get ahead of the author because you can't do it.
Mord McGhee is a true talent, something rare in todays literature. He is an absolute master at taking a paragraph and condensing it down to two or three words which describes what is happening better than the entire paragraph. His insights into the mind of a killer could be either amazing or worrisome, but I suspect those insights are more a measure of his creative gift, and he is gifted!
As an author, I had to put the book down several times and walk away to evaluate my own writing and I am a better author for having read Murder Red Ink
If you want a real mind trip and see how its supposed to be done, you must read Murder Red Ink, but don't do it alone at night.

About the Author

Joseph Jerry Levesque was born in Maine during the Prohibition era. He spent two years in the navy and returned home to become a snowshoe-racing champion. He earned the key to the city of Montreal for snowshoeing three hundred miles to attend an international snowshoe convention.

Levesque is founder of the Brothers of St. Joseph and the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, both in Oklahoma City. Resurrection Memorial boasts North America’s most unique cemetery chapel.

He published and edited the Cognac Club Newsletter for eight years and traveled Europe for a decade, bootlegging liquor. Ever unconventional, Levesque discusses his original Viper Brandy with his doctor, delivers beer to his dermatologist, and chats with his urologist about the sex of snakes.

Before it's dismissed the preacher does a good job of showing possibilitys I highly recommend this short book keep a open mind....and as a side to the preacher aliens don't have to show up and attack to unite the world..showing up and not attacking can get the same result..think about this...if they showed up and did not attack...who is the person that talks to them first.....why that person would be the most powerful man on earth...get my meaning

This book brings the major historical event in Georgia alive. It is all the cycle tourist needs for a great experience.

I have ridden the left wing route with the author previously. These rides included a brief narrative on the historical accounts but not with as much detail as the book provides. Honestly reading the routes brought the history of the route alive and made me want to ride it again. The next time I ride the routes I will review the accounts the morning of the days ride and imagine what the march looked and sounded like. Overall a must have book if you want to cycle tour in Georgia.

High Quality Presentation

Permit me to 1st qualify my below opinion with the statement that I have NOT yet ridden the routes (2) presented in this book. Meanwhile,I do intend to do one or both rides over the next year or two because of the confidence that I have that data provided by the author, Eddie Shirey, is accurate.
More specifically, I would say the following:
1. Over the years I have used thousands of miles of cycling cue sheets, and with that collective experience comparatively in mind with Mr. Shirey's presentation layout, the book appears to me to provide the highest of quality detail/accuracy and clarity.
2. He offers Georgia human history, as well as, even a little natural history along the route to enhance the enjoyment of the ride.
3. The book is practical in that it divides the rides into 6 days so that cyclists can approach the treks in sections (with no single day being greater than 68 miles < my kind of 'self-contained' daily distance whereby one can enjoy the towns, the people and the sites along the way ! :- ).
4. Eddie Shirey reminds the reader to adquately and carefully prepare, physically and equipment-wise, for bicycle tours of this type. It is understandably beyond the scope of this book to address 'preparation' in any depth - one that is new to bikepacking will need to reference other sources.
5. The author has developed web based ancillary data, of several different categories, including GPS, ascent, decent, etc., and associated links. With "Atlanta to Savannah" having been released only last month, Nov. 2014, my hope is that, over time, Mr. Shirey will enable growth to his website that will show updates to the routes (i.e./e.g., business closings/opening, minor route changes, etc.).

Eddie, I just started your book tonight. I am so proud of you! I hear the same sense of humor, blended with a few slightly sarcastic undertones, that takes me back to the 1960's - right back to high school. I'm happy to see that even after all these years, your true Eddie Shirey voice rings through. Thanks for making me laugh out loud. Though I absolutely have no desire - or ability - to cycle to Savannah, I am certainly enjoying my vicarious ride from Atlanta to Savannah.

Ieyasu's son Takechiyo turns out to be a Child of Smoke

I do not know if the gap between Dark Horse Manga's publication of each volume of "Path of the Assassin" has been steadily growing with each new release, but it certainly seems that way. It becomes necessary to fight the temptation to read each new volume cover to cover (starting at the "back" of course) as soon as it finally arrives and to limit myself to one story a night and letting the experience last an entire week. Fortunately an appreciation of Zen is helpful because you will discover in Volume 7, "Center of the World," that there is not a lot of action this time around. That is not to say that nothing happens, because the Baldy Rat shows up with a strange proposal, Ieyasu and Hatori Hanzo fight with the stems of weeds, and there are a couple of assassination attempts. But somehow the most compelling part of these stories become when Ieyasu lays out his options and his next step (or hop) along the path that will lead to him becoming Shogun, especially since in this volume he asks for Imperial permission to take the name Tokugawa by which history best remembers him.

We end up with parts of three different chapters in Volume 7, beginning with the end of the "Chapter on 'Shogyo Mujo.'" No. 3: "Oman," is about a young woman with whom Ieyasu is smitten. Of course, as lord of the castle he can have any woman he wants, and Hanzo is certainly happy to go and bring Oman hither, but Ieyasu has no desire to take any woman by force. So Hanzo arranges for Oman to be Ieyasu's maidservant, and that sets the stage for the rather innocent seduction that takes place. Now Hanzo's only problem is to make sure Ieyasu's wife does not find out what is going on, revealing yet another aspect of his limitless ingenuity.

The next five parts belong to the "Chapter on 'Josha Hissui,'" most of which is taken up by a massive story that surprisingly does not give this volume its title. That would be No. 1: "Center of the World," where Ieyasu's court is wondering what Hanzo has not been rewarded, when even those who have been conquered have been given something by Ieyasu. There is a simple explanation, so obvious that Hanzo does not see it. No. 2: "Child of Smoke," is the key story in this collection, and begins with an assassination attempt on Takechiyo, the young son of Ieyasu. While the boy's mother confronts the assassin, Ieyasu and Hanzo consider the political implications of such an attack. However, it is the Baldy Rat who shows up and offers not just an explanation, but also proposes a strange course of action for Ieyasu to take. Meanwhile, Hanzo and his wife consider whether having a child would interfere with his duty towards his lord; it turns out there is duty, and then there is duty.

The other two parts constitute an interlude between this chapter and the next one. No. 4: "No Pretty Trees on the Mountain Top" has Ieyasu considering the question of whether he should buy muskets to arm his troops, giving him another opportunity to weigh his opponents and mark his course. Similarly, No. 5: "Neither Sings nor Flies" finds master and friend sitting in a field playing with flowers while considering not only the future but the importance of luck. Finally, we get the opening part of the "Chapter on 'Esha Jori." No. 1: "Shinobi with Extending Fists, Part 1," has an assassination attempt on Ieyasu and single combat between Hanzo and the assassin to force a confession of who is behind the plot. I guess we are lucky that they found a convenient place to stop this story, and once again we have to wait for the next book, "Path Of The Assassin, Volume 8: Shinobi with Extending Fists" to see if this is halfway through the story on just the opening act of some larger saga. The fact that this story gives the next volume its title would be considered a clue.

With their fictional telling of the early life of Ieyasu Tokugawa, I think author Kazuo Koike and artist Goseki Kojima have crafted yet another masterpiece. Trying to pick between "Path of the Assassin," "Lone Wolf and Cub," and "Samurai Executioner" is just like the classic example of talking apples, oranges, and bananas. As long as you like fruit (for "fruit" read "manga"), there is no reason that you should not like watching a young boy turn into a Shogun, an epic saga about the quest for vengeance, or a contemplative look at the nature of justice in feudal Japan. I think "Path of the Assassin" might be my favorite, but that might just be because we are just shy of the halfway point in this 15-volume series. As always, keep in mind that these books are intended for mature readers and that the Parental Advisory label on the front cover (which is in the "back" since these books are oriented in right-to-left reading format as originally created) is a serious warning, because there are several scenes of naked nude people having sex.

Good but complicated

Like the other two series "Lone Wolf and Cub" and "Samurai Executioner", "Path of the Assasin" is a very pleasant book for one to read. But unlike the other two series, there is a focus on the geopolitical events of that era in japan and much less battles. Also it is almost impossible to remember all the different names and charactes that take part on the plot.
